Demonstrating the Role of Intuition in Leadership
In our society, taking a look at the obvious can take some daring. That's because
many aspects of ourselves as individuals and groups have been traditionally denied,
avoided or buried. In many cases, intuition is one of those aspects. It was an
uplifting and insightful experience to lead a group recently in a discussion
and sharing on the topic of the role of intuition in leadership. As the interaction
rolled on, one participant -- Janice Mark -- penned the following observation.
I believe it is rich in some very important truths that apply if we are to bring
more respect and ease into the workplace and our homes. Ponder this observation
and see how it applies to your life:
"To
be successful in leadership intuition is absolutely essential.
Those successful in leadership use it whether they know it
or not. You can not treat people the same way it is disrespectful
of their individual personalities. A good leader is like a
chameleon who subtly shifts their approach to fit each individual,
therefore, this gift really can’t be taught. A good leader
is a brilliant study of other people’s energy."
Hope
to see you at the next 'gathering'...Cheers! John
~ "I
Like Who You Are". Such a simple phrase.
Is it being said by the woman in front of the mirror
as she prepares herself for her day? Is it being
said by the shopkeeper who watches a customer leave
his store after a major purchase? Is it being thought
by the person who brakes gently and lets another
vehicle enter the traffic?
Is
it being used as a teaching tool by a Grade 1 teacher?
Perhaps they have pupils sitting in a circle as they
talk about the power of the phrase. Does it have a
certain effect on your feelings when you say it inside
about yourself? Can you use it as
a silent mantra before you open your mouth in conversation
with another?
Play
around with it, and see what happens today...
Cheers!

~ Taking
something such as "spiritual mechanics" into
the workplace might seem a bit daunting at first,
but every experience proves more and more how ready
people are to live from their core and to exchange
with people at deep and respectful levels.
In late April I participated in a day-long workshop about fear and frustration
in leadership, and how to face that, embrace it, and move beyond it.
What do you do for a gathering of sales people, shopping mall executives, government
bureaucrats and diplomats? You show them how little the world has changed....
And to do that, you place before them an 1902 cylinder gramophone, brass horn
and all. Then you play for them, as I did, an 1898 wax cylinder recorded in
a studio in London, England by a group of men engaged in chatter, laughter
and song. As the cylinder was played, their banter and melodies clearly filling
the room as the sound broadcast across the ages.
It makes us all sound rather connected, rather similar,
and rather uncomplicated, even in the complicated lives
we have created. I told the gathering that I
am looking for a 1904 cylinder recorded by a brave individual who stood in
front of the horn back then and declared, "Ladies and Gentlemen of 2004!
How are you doing? How's life with all your technology? How simple has life
become? Do you get it yet? And what is it you might wish we would have done
back in 1904 to make life better back then so life would have become even
easier for you later? Think about it and get back to me!"
I then asked the gathering to consider what it is they would record, if they
indeed recorded a message today, for the folks in 3004. Any less preposterous?
Not really. It might be kind of interesting to record for posterity how you
finally decided to lay down your troubles and show other people how to do the
same.
Well, that large meeting room in the Chateau Laurier Hotel (itself a place
of much history as well) certainly changed once the gramophone came out, the
the surprise of all. And it changed the energy when it was running, and it
certainly changed some perspectives.
Many of the participants spoke sincerely how the day
had changed them, and they continue to do so several
weeks later. "Love" was one of the
words used that day to describe the atmosphere among such a diverse group
of leaders. Little did those Englishmen know that their
efforts in 1898 would
be used in such a way. What legacy will your presence leave us?

~The
expansion of wholeness deletes deception. An
interesting observation. Perhaps it can be put
another way: There is less and less room for problematic,
deceptive, split, troubled energy when you enlarge
your perspective. Problematic energy just doesn't
have room to work its way in. Too often we are
called upon to fight deception or a avoid a thought,
or banish a feeling. In part, this may be a good
thing backed by well-meaning intention, but such
an approach can sure split our energy. Such an
approach raises the possibilty we'll lose balance
and fall off our horse.
Become a person who demonstrates, with your presence, what a sense of already
being whole, already being expansive, and already being connected accomplishes.
Pro-wholeness functions a lot more easily than being anti-deceptive. The more
pro-wholeness there is floating around, the faster more and more people will
get it, feel it, and believe they are ready to try it out themselves.
Take this idea to what I call "Door Number 1 and Door Number 2."
Behind Door Number 1 is an anti-deceptive person. Behind Door Number 2 is a
pro-wholeness person. Look at the energies of the two people. Look at their
effect on the atmosphere. Look at the effect on themselves. And look at the
reaction to the energy around them as they make their way through their day.
" Door Number 1 and Door Number 2" is a very useful exercise to check,
outside of oursevles, the effects for certain behaviours before we go ahead and
apply them. As you see, so are you seen too. And as long as the cosmos can see
you, you might as well take a deep breath, relax, and show more of the world
what wholeness is capable of demonstrating.
How many other ways can you use "Door Number 1 and Door Number 2" to
check out the energy effect of thoughts and phrases, utterances and conversations?

~ North
America and Europe have two different electrical systems.
Now that’s a current thought! (Just look at the
inlets in the wall on the two continents and see the
difference!). When the videotape recorder came onto the
market, two systems called VHS and Beta battled it out
in North America. Beta lost. These different ways of
doing the same thing are called protocols. It’s
the same with screws. That’s why you might need
different types of screwdrivers. What you don’t
need to do is damage your hands (or your vocal chords!)
using an inappropriate type of screwdriver. Just change
protocols.
So it is with cultures, religions, and customs. So it is with forms of healing.
In the end, they are often, quite simply, different protocols. Don’t
scream. Buy the appropriate screwdriver. Purchase the adaptor you’ll
need in Europe for your steam iron. And give that person on the bus a break
if they perceive the world slightly differently than you do. Yelling at the
wall socket won’t get the wrong plug into the system. When you can use
two screwdrivers, the repair gets done; when you can buy an adaptor you can
travel. And when you open your heart and mind to new perspectives, you can
bring peace more easily.
